Mazda has officially unveiled the 2025 Mazda BT-50, showcasing a fresh design, enhanced safety features and an array of new technology.

The Mazda BT-50 dual cab ute, which first hit the market back in 2020, is gearing up for its fourth major update, which Mazda is promising to be the biggest yet. Before we get too excited though, if the latest Isuzu D-MAX — the Mazda BT-50’s under-skin twin — is anything to go by, this latest upgrade will primarily focus on cosmetics and safety features, while the power beneath it all remains the same, and excellent, 4JJ engine and Aisin six-speed gearboxes in the top-spec models.

But we’ll have to wait until early 2025 for the full specs list and Aussie pricing, which will be revealed before the BT-50 launches in the first quarter of 2025.

Vinesh Bhindi, managing director of Mazda Australia said, “Formatting an integral part of our Mazda model range here in Australia, the BT-50 has set the tone as a versatile, ready-for-anything vehicle that suits a variety of customer needs whether it’s a trusty work companion or an enabler for life’s passions.

“For 2025, this impactful new design has matured our much-loved ute to be an even more compelling choice regardless of the task in hand.”

What’s new in the 2025 upgrade?

The 2025 Mazda BT-50 is getting an external facelift with new alloy wheels, revamped LED headlamps and a fresh grille and bumper — complete with an innovative ‘air curtain’ that is designed to boost aerodynamics and reduce fuel costs. The sides will remain the same, but down the back there’s a new ridged tailgate design, updated LED tail lamps and a larger Mazda logo.

The colour choices are also being upgraded, with three new choices joining the mix: the new hero colour ‘Red Earth Metallic’, ‘Geode White Pearl’ and ‘Sailing Blue Metallic’, bringing the total colour choices up to seven.

There’ll be minor updates to the interior aesthetic, including a shift from brown to black leather trims for certain grades, while top-tier models can opt for luxurious black and terracotta ‘Maztex’ leather with synthetic suede with the ‘BT-50’ logo stitched into the front headrests.

Much like the new D-MAX, the 2025 BT-50 will feature a new infotainment system, which includes touch switches for ease of use and will measure up to 9.0-inches across. There’ll also be a customisable 7.0-inch multi-information display (MID) for the driver, USB-C ports and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Making life a bit easier for all onboard, the centre display will now integrate information that was previously limited to the driver’s MID, offering real-time data on the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), drive mode and diff lock status, Rough Terrain Mode and vehicle steering and tilt angles.

Safety has received a major boost with new front stereo cameras that expand the vehicle’s field of view, alongside features such as Rear Cross Traffic Brake (RCTB), Traffic Cab Assist and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control that uses an upgraded Traffic Sign Recognition system to adjust the vehicle’s speed accordingly.

The digital rear camera benefits from a hydrophobic coating for better visibility and will now include dynamic guidelines on the touchscreen display for easy reversing. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system will include motorcycle and pedestrian detection at intersections, while the Emergency Lane Keeping feature can now identify road edges without line markings.

A new range of Mazda Genuine Accessories will also be launched alongside the 2025 BT-50, designed by the local Mazda team and trusted supplier partners and tailored for Australian conditions.

Stay tuned for more details in the months ahead and head to the Mazda website to find out more.
