Four-wheel driving and camping go hand in hand, and we’re excited to check out Isuzu UTE Australia’s latest offering, the Isuzu D-MAX Blade, which will be hitting Aussie tracks in only a few weeks.
This flagship special edition ute is spec’d for offroading and has been reengineered and remanufactured specifically for local Australian conditions, which was done in partnership with Walkinshaw Automotive Group (WAG) in Melbourne, Vic.
Isuzu UTE Australia deputy managing director, Koichiro Yoshida, said “For as long as I can remember, customers and the media have asked about a higher spec, offroad-ready ute to rival the competition, something extremely capable, without compromise.
“I hope they’re ready for the answer — the D-MAX Blade has been developed specifically for those Australians who like to go their own way.”
To keep us sated until the official launch, Isuzu has released a 15-second teaser video with an obscure glimpse of the upcoming ute.
But what do we know so far?
As part of the D-MAX range, the Blade will feature the 3.0-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine seen in other D-MAX variants, which produces 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
Bigger wheels, tyres and different springs are expected to give it a ride height increase (extra ground clearance is always great), as well as new wheel arches, high-mounted brake light, sump guard and a unique sailplane sports bar.
No pricing has been revealed yet, but with the Blade positioned to be Isuzu’s flagship offroader, it’s fair to assume it will be one of, if not the most expensive models in the Isuzu dual-cab ute fleet.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long before we can get behind the wheel and provide a full review.
More information on the release will be coming on 1 November, with local deliveries soon after that.
