The special edition Isuzu MU-X TOUR MATE is available at dealerships now

If you’re looking for a SUV that’s ready for on and offroad touring and towing, then check out the special edition MU-X TOUR MATE by Isuzu UTE Australia.

Isuzu UTE Australia’s range of utes and SUVs are some of the most popular options on the Australian market, so it was no surprise that the reintroduction of the spec’d-up D-MAX TOUR MATE special edition back in August did so well.

And to keep the good times going, Isuzu has expanded its best-selling MU-X range with the introduction of the Isuzu MU-X TOUR MATE special edition.

The new MU-X TOUR Mate build is based on the top-spec MU-X LS-T variant and features the same powerful 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with a dual-range 4x4 drivetrain with six-speed automatic transmission.

“With the D-MAX TOUR MATE proving popular since its introduction in August 2024, it was only natural that we offer a TOUR MATE special edition to our MU-X customers,” commented Mr Koichiro Yoshida, Isuzu UTE Australia’s deputy managing director.

“For years, the TOUR MATE badge represented towing and touring-ready capability, along with value for money. The 2024 Isuzu MU-X TOUR MATE is no exception, a highly equipped vehicle that offers motorists adventures direct from the showroom.”

Tow-ready

The 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity means it won’t have trouble towing a wide range of camper trailers (although it’s essential to check your fully loaded weights first). It also has more than half a tonne of payload available (even with the 102kg worth of accessories added to this special edition package), which should allow you to bring along all the essential gear for your camping adventures.

Towing is also made easier, and safer, with the inclusion of Clearview extendable and heated power-fold compact towing mirrors. And those who like heading off the bitumen will appreciate the 235mm (9.2in) of ground clearance, 800mm (31.5in) wading depth, rear diff lock and Rough Terrain Mode.

It also has 20-inch alloy wheels with 265/50R20 Bridgestone 684II HT tyres, which link up to the tyre pressure monitoring system which can be viewed via the 9.0-inch infotainment system while driving.

Adventure-ready package

The MU-X TOUR MATE was designed to be Isuzu’s most equipped and capable 4x4 SUV, and to achieve this it includes an adventure-ready package of more than $9200 worth of commonly selected genuine Isuzu accessories already included. These accessories include a black steel bull bar with integrated parking sensors and fog lights, a tow bar kit with 50mm ball, 12-pin wiring harness, electric brake controller, unique TOUR MATE badging and the Clearview mirrors.

All up, the packaged accessories represent between $9377 and $12,185 worth of savings, depending on the on-road costs of the state or territory in which the vehicle is registered.

The satin black steel bull bar for frontal protection is included in the TOUR MATE packageClearview towing mirrors are also included

SUV storage

One of the main drawcards of an SUV compared to a ute is the extra seats and internal storage, and the MU-X TOUR MATE doesn’t disappoint. It’s got seven seats, all featuring leather-accented upholstery, and storage wise there is plenty of boot space with 311L available with all the seats up, 1119L with the third row folded down and 2138L with the second and third rows folded down flat.

Entertainment and safety features

Inside, there’s plenty of modern vehicle luxury at hand. The 9.0-inch infotainment system features satellite navigation, smart phone mirroring, voice recognition, Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, a DAB+ digital radio, eight-speaker audio and supports the reversing camera with dynamic guidelines.

For extra safety there is Isuzu’s Intelligent Driver Assist System (IDAS), which includes autonomous electronic braking (AEB) with turn assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and prevention, lane keeping assist, emergency lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, trailer sway control and eight airbags.

The driver will be in the lap of luxury with an eight-way electric and variably heated adjustable seat, complete with electric adjustable lumbar support. The passenger seat isn’t quite as lucky but is still heated with four-way electric adjustability.

The TOUR MATE has push button start with smart entry and start and also remote engine start (with authorised entry and antitheft measures). And if you’re loading up the back, then you can enjoy the power tailgate with remote and handsfree operation.
