INEOS Automotive is a British newcomer to the Aussie 4WD industry and made some noteworthy waves when the first Grenadier was revealed in 2023. Camper Trailer of the Year judge, regular contributor and all-round 4WD enthusiast Tim van Duyl had the chance to take the first Grenadier out for a test drive through the Highlands of Scotland and then a 12-day tow test in Australia, and he has been suitably impressed with what INEOS has achieved so far.

Despite only just cracking into the Aussie market, INEOS hasn’t rested on its laurels, and its newest addition — the Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cab — presents a unique and versatile 4WD that will appeal to all kinds of drivers.

This five-seat double cab chassis unit is a variant of the popular INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster pickup and is aimed at owners who want to be able to customise their 4WD to suit their requirements — whether that’s for offroad adventures or worksite use.

The Chassis Cab was developed alongside the Quartermaster pickup and is designed to provide the perfect balance of offroad ability and load-carrying versatility — without losing the comfort, safety, refinement and features that customers expect.

“In the first year since Grenadier launched, we have already seen a number of specialist conversions, particularly with emergency services such as fire, police and inshore rescue, so launching the Quartermaster Chassis Cab is a natural step that takes our offroad expertise into many commercial areas that need a class leading 4x4,”said George Ratcliffe, commercial director of INEOS Automotive.

The Chassis Cab has many features INEOS fans will recognise, including the 3227mm wheelbase of the Quartermaster, which is 305mm longer than the Grenadier Station Wagon. The Chassis Cab also includes an exposed ladder frame behind the passenger cabin, which gives customers and aftermarket vehicle converters a wide range of body-building options. And with the 3500kg towing capacity, there’s plenty of ways to expand on this model.

The Chassis Cab also shares its five-seat double cab, full box-section ladder frame chassis, heavy-duty solid beam axles, two-speed transfer case, and up to three locking differentials with the Quartermaster. There is a choice of BMW 3L turbo-charged inline six-cylinder petrol or diesel engines for power, which drive all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF.

The Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cab will be built in Hambach, France, at the manufacturing facility INEOS Automotive acquired from Mercedes-Benz in 2021. These models will be manufactured on the same production line as the other Grenadier models.

“The Grenadier’s body-on-frame construction already provides huge versatility for customisation, and we know from customer configurations that our vehicles are being used equally between commercial and leisure users. The ‘blank canvas’ Chassis Cab variant allows even greater versatility, from the basic tray-back for agricultural use through recovery and emergency services to tourism, presenting an ideal platform for an overlanding camper,” Ratcliffe said.

For Aussie customers, the Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cab price will begin at AUD $102,000 RRP including GST.
