Bendleby Ranges, known for some of the best four-wheel driving and camping in the Southern Flinders Ranges, has been nominated as a finalist in the ‘Adventure Tourism’ category at the 2022 QANTAS National Tourism awards, which will be held at Doltone House, Sydney, on 17 March 2023.
At the edge of the 600-million-year-old Flinders Ranges and home to the Indigenous Adnyamathanha people, Bendleby Ranges offers a rich history and diverse flora and fauna, including unique species found nowhere else. It is a place to create memories, bond with loved ones and appreciate the beauty of nature. With its adventure-filled activities and breathtaking landscapes, Bendleby Ranges is the perfect getaway no matter what Adventure means to you.
A recent back-to-back winner of the ‘Adventure Tourism’ category in the 2022 South Australian Tourism awards, Bendleby Ranges is now vying for the national award. With a range of activities such as four-wheel driving, bushwalking, camping, cycling, birdwatching, horse riding and astrophotography possible, it isn’t hard to see why this destination is a finalist when it genuinely offers something for everyone.
One of the great things about Bendleby Ranges is that it gives you the flexibility to tailor your experience to whatever ‘adventure’ means to you. If it is remote off-grid touring, book a remote campsite and be totally alone amongst the best nature has to offer. If camping closer to some of the comforts of home is more your style, that’s an option too. And if comfort is key, there’s an amazing array of cottage accommodation options where everything including bedding and linen is provided, so the only thing to worry about is what food and drinks to bring.
It probably won’t surprise you that Bendleby Ranges is also a leader in sustainable tourism. This has earned the property many awards and certifications, including the 2018 Silver in Adventure Tourism, Bronze in Tourist Attraction (SA Tourism Awards), 2021 Gold in Adventure Tourism (SA Tourism Awards), 2021 Silver in Adventure Tourism (Australian Tourism Awards), and 2022 Gold in Adventure Tourism (SA Tourism Awards).
The destination also holds certifications such as Advanced Eco Tourism – Green Travel Leader, Quality Tourism Accredited Business, Quality Tourism Accredited Business – Camps and Adventure, Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business, and Climate Action Certification.
The competition in the ‘Adventure Tourism’ destination category is fierce, with several other notable destinations also being recognised as finalists, including Dynamic Motivation Mountain Biking ACT, Balloon Aloft NSW, World Expeditions/Australian Walking Holidays NT, Ocean Rafting QLD, Tasmanian Photography Workshops TAS, Absolute Outdoors/Grampians Peaks Walking Company VIC, and The Hike Collective WA. These destinations represent the best in adventure tourism in Australia and set a high bar for Bendleby Ranges to strive towards.
The results of the 2022 QANTAS Australian Tourism Awards Ceremony will be released on 17 March 2023.
