The campground proposal, lodged by Australia Zoo, allows for the establishment of 68 bush camps, eight cabins and 32 recreational vehicle sites on a 29 hectare plot adjoining the zoo.

In a statement to the press issued by the Sunshine Coast Council, Planning and Development Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson said the project had been architecturally designed to blend with the site’s natural attributes.

“This carefully considered and ‘custom designed’ project at Beerwah will support the continued expansion of Australia Zoo as an international tourist destination, providing an exceptional range of animal and nature based attractions, experiences and facilities,” said Cr Dickson.

Plans on the council website paint an attractive view of the grounds set against bushland with sprawling lawns, a levelled recreation area, a dam and private drive-through access for the proposed RV sites.

Ablution amenities and reception facilities have also been approved in the final submission.

Australia Zoo has yet to release further details on the project.
