On The Move Caravans debuted its new hard-walled Crossfire hybrid at Melbourne Leisurefest in October.
Blurring the lines between a caravan and a camper trailer, the Crossfire comes in several lengths and variants, including single and tandem-axle, hardtop and pop-top, and a family model with rear bunks instead of an ensuite will also be released soon.
We sent CTA journalist David Gilchrist to Queensland to test out the brand new 6.67m On the Move Crossfire hybrid for us.
Here’s what he thought:
“The single axle independent suspension gets a tick straight away as it helped the van rise and fall over the sand, without being too bouncy.
“As the van’s track width is the same width as the tow vehicle, it sat nicely in the tow vehicle’s wheel tracks as it churned along the beach. That made hauling this van all the easier.
“It’s more than just good looking, in terms of construction style it’s up with current trend with aluminium framed composite construction resting on a heavy duty galvanised chassis.
“Unfortunately, while this weekend warrior has solar to help provide power, it didn’t have an inverter to make the most of its dual 155W solar power arrangement feeding two 100Ah batteries. Fortunately, that’s available as an optional extra.
With an external kitchen, barbecue, and hot-and-cold shower, as well as a full internal ensuite, David said the Crossfire was, in name and design, ideal for outdoor adventurers.
