The campground has new roads, signs and amenities blocks to service the campsites, which can accommodate caravans, camper trailers and tent campers, and each come with a picnic table and barbecue ring. The reserve’s homestead and shearers’ quarters have also been upgraded.
The reserve is a former pastoral lease offering campers nature-based recreation opportunities such as exploring historical mining towns, bushwalking, wildflower viewing, birdwatching and photography. The landscape includes stands of mature salmon gums, breakaways and greenstone hills.
The reserve also encompasses the Clear and Muddy Nature Reserve and Rowles Lagoon Conservation Park – home to the largest freshwater lake in the Coolgardie bioregion. The lagoon is significant for local Indigenous people who worked on the station and whose ancestors camped at Rowles. Campers are welcome to go yabbying in one of the many dams at Credo.
The homestead is 75km north-west of Coolgardie along the Coolgardie North Road. Most of the tracks on the former pastoral property are for 4WD vehicles only, however, access to Rowles Lagoon is open to all vehicles during dry soil conditions.
The $250,000 Credo campground project was funded by the WA state government’s Royalties for Regions program as part of the $21.05 million Parks for People initiative, which is aimed at encouraging people to experience the state’s natural assets and provide affordable holidays.
