With all major manufacturers on show and many wheeling out new products, Melbourne Leisurefest, which ran at Sandown Racecourse from Oct 8-11, has become a definite ‘must-do’ for prospective caravan and camper trailer buyers.

Jayco threw a cat among the pigeons with its new $10,999 American-built J8 wind-up camper, although its future is uncertain once the initial batch of 40 imported models is sold.

But it was the hybrids which stole the show this year.

Australian Off Road also displayed its new Quantum and 500mm longer Quantum Plus Super Campers, both with new all-fibreglass bodies and nose and tail-mouldings ‘borrowed’ from the offroad Matrix caravan, with prices starting at $92,990.

At the other end of the pop-top hybrid spectrum, was the new On the Move Crossfire and similar Eagle, competitors to the Complete Campsite’s Exodus 9.
