The Rhinomax Outback Warrior follows the form of the traditional rear-fold hardfloor camper, but it does it in a comprehensive and well-put-together, all-Australian package at a very competitive price of $36,950, as we saw it.

The Outback Warrior is custom-built locally to the purchaser’s requirements, but without the high price tag of some other Aussie hardfloors. Being built locally also ensures that quality is maintained.

Design & Construction

There is excellent attention to detail, from the finely detailed canvas work, to the well set up electrical system, to the laser cut and TIG-welded seamless bodywork.

The Outback Warrior is aimed at couples, but can be supplied with kids’ rooms and other extras to make it a competent family tourer. The spare wheel is located on a sturdy rear swing-away arm and the tent set-up and pack-away is assisted by a winch.

The SupaGal chassis is braced by the welded Zincanneal body and rides on Rhinomax’s own trailing arm independent suspension using Pedders shocks and coils, with 50mm stubs and 10in electric brakes, and 16in alloy rims to give the whole unit a look of class. The standard hitch is an AL-KO offroad, which has proven popular as it functions with a standard 50mm ball coupling, but can be varied if desired.

Interior

The kitchen is roomy and well-appointed, with a three-burner stove and mixer tap, plenty of bench space, good storage for pots, pans, crockery and cutlery, and a handy pantry drawer. There is a sturdy fridge slide into a front box that’s equipped with a solar fan to save battery life.

The excellent tent has zips both sides, for an awning along the kitchen side and the addition of a shower or kids’ room or additional awning along the driver’s side. A tropical roof erects automatically upon opening. The long awning, which projects over the front box, is difficult to pack in over the bed and is best removed at pack away and refitted each time. A smaller awning, which can stay attached, is available.

The bed is a comfortable queen innerspring, with storage drawer below and additional storage beneath that. All bedding and other items (chairs, table, etc) can pack on top of the bed. The rear floor of the opened camper is an insulated 30mm thick fibreglass deck on an alloy frame and is strong enough for kayaks or tinnies. The warranty is five years on structural components.

THE JUDGES’ Wrap Up

An excellently designed and manufactured camper that would please even the most discerning buyer. I reckon many would love the kitchen in this camper — it’s way beyond my culinary skills though! The build quality and finish are extremely good.

The Outback Warrior is aimed at couples, but is also family friendly thanks to the addable kids’ rooms. Rhinomax likes to sell its campers “remote ready” and that is evident in the high-standard of fit-out.

It has plenty of electrical storage and water, with great canvas, sleeping arrangements and kitchen, making this a well set up offroad camper. The precise body construction means limited sealant and greater durability. This camper tows well, with good departure angles, and with only the back edge of the tank touching in some deep and sharp gutters.

A five-year warranty and a willingness to travel to fix any problems make for strong customer support. At this price, “remote ready” with a high standard of fit-out, this camper would have you stopping to ponder the price and value of campers over $20,000 dearer.
